public walking out

yesterday the first time, we performed in Berlin. In a nice, but soundwise difficult space in the radialsystem, a new theatrebuilding, hosted by sasha waltz and guests. Part of the public was a whole group of dutch art students, from the conservatory, theatre school, visual arts academy. A group is always problematic, because they check all the time with each other if it is aright to enjoy. after six minutes the first students left the space, even before i could welcome the public with my faggot like “hello” out of the backstage with my wireless mike. so it became immediately “hello berlin, hello and goodbye.” During the piece more students left, and now i am wondering. was it so uninteresting what we showed.That was perhaps the case with the people who left after an hour, and thought well this is enough, we are but the people who already left after five minutes. what did they expect and what had they in mind. Were they provoked by the naked ass of frans. They left at that moment but i cannot understand what is so provocative about a male ass. i suddenly thought about education, about the male naked body, but also i was thinking about the people when they do not like our work because they say we want to provoke, or are to cynical. both reactions interest me a lot, because we try to make poor, very simple, almost naive theatre, but we are never cynical. to be continued…

snapshot made by my new computer of the classroom of our netzmeister Eric, Frans is a very excellent student, i felt more being in the kitchen, but had to relearn some things i forgot. check mister uniteds blog from now on, and also all the texts will become so different now, because we are both responsible to make content.
